As you will see stacking can be useful for both macro and landscape photography.

As both Photoshop and Lightroom can auto-blend focus stacked images there are also numerous tutorials available based on using those programs.

In a nutshell, from the Shutterbug site: “Focus stacking” is a powerful image-editing technique for increasing the apparent depth of field in an image, and it’s relatively easy to accomplish. The idea is to shoot several photos of a scene at slightly different distances, and then merge the sharpest portions of each shot using Photoshop, Lightroom or another editing program

It works great, think of it as HDR for focus.
