After capturing the prison yard in extreme lighting conditions, how would you go about processing the yard? Post-production instructor, Tony Sweet, walks you through the steps to achieve the final HDR photograph.

Using Photomatix software, he discovers haloing around the clouds and pulls back the strength. In the default setting, Tony makes general adjustments: white and black points, luminosity, chromatic aberration, gamma, color settings, and smoothing. Tony advises, “Take your time. Work the sliders. Try all your options. In the end, go with your emotion, how the image feels to you.”

He closes the processing by importing the image into Photoshop and adding a classic soft focus filter. Tune into this video session and learn how pro instructor Tony Sweet processes the HDR prison yard photograph.
