Masking can improve your images in post processing. In this premium video, Outdoor Photography Guide’s David Johnston gives you tips on next level masking in Lightroom.

He edits his image of autumn trees. In the Develop module, he adjusts various colors and temperature, adding brilliance. Next, goes to New Mask and uses a brush to paint a vignette around the main subject. For further refinement, he brings up next level masking, accessing the three little dots next to the Mask icon.

With these intersecting masks, new editing possibilities open up. Now he can adjust the luminance of his original mask. He then creates another mask and adjusts the color range of the yellow leaves. Finally, he creates another mask and adjusts the radial gradient to brighten the central section of the image.

Next Level Masking can enhance your photos. Give it a try.
