In outdoor photography, backlighting can be your enemy, but it can also be your friend. World renowned photographer, Jim Zuckerman, visits an old cemetery in Massachusetts and turns backlighting into his photographic friend.

Jim selects a tree for its strong graphic design element. He positions his camera at a low angle and turns the tree into a dramatic silhouette, his subject of a single gravestone in the foreground. Although the sunlight causes lens flare, Jim decides to leave it within his image, later cloning the flare out in post production.
