Water Photography Safety Tips and Clothing Options

Landscape and wildlife photographer Ian Plant, who specializes in water photography, offers tips on how to stay safe while shooting in and around water. Precautions to take include walking carefully on slippery surfaces and knowing the water temperature, so you can wear the right protective clothing to keep your own body temperature at a safe level. He demonstrates using your tripod as a walking stick and offers recommendations on what to do when photographing in coastal areas where you deal with splashing waves and rising tides. He also offers tips on how to keep your camera equipment safe when photographing around salt water, as well as exactly how to rescue your camera if it gets dunked in fresh water. Note that if it gets wet in salt water, there is little that can be done to save it.
