Assembling a Digital Sandwich at Magnolia Gardens
Tony SweetThe digital sandwich works beautifully for nature photography. In this video, professional photographer Tony Sweet takes you to Magnolia Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina to capture a classic photograph. You will learn how to create a soft-focus image through defocusing and also how to assemble a digital sandwich in editing.
Tony shoots a stand of cypress trees framing an old gazebo. Then, he defocuses the lens and repeats the shot. In editing, he will merge the sharp image with the out-of-focus image to create a soft-focus effect. Later, in post-production, he demonstrates how to create a digital sandwich of the original image through Photoshop layering.
