The digital sandwich works beautifully for nature photography. In this video, professional photographer Tony Sweet takes you to Magnolia Gardens in Charleston, South Carolina to capture a classic photograph. You will learn how to create a soft-focus image through defocusing and also how to assemble a digital sandwich in editing.
Tony shoots a stand of cypress trees framing an old gazebo. Then, he defocuses the lens and repeats the shot. In editing, he will merge the sharp image with the out-of-focus image to create a soft-focus effect. Later, in post-production, he demonstrates how to create a digital sandwich of the original image through Photoshop layering.
